more pillows n such

A few more pillows have made their way from my sewing machine to the couch.

This smaller one I made today- simple but cute. Double sided with boxed corners. I like it.
I made this one a few weeks ago.
This Union Jack symbol took me forever to make,
with cutting each individual stripe and sewing it on separately...
Worth it though- it's freaking adorable.

The sewing machine has also been dished out for a few alterations.
Below is the first patch I've ever put on jeans- it was harder than I expected- it's difficult to maneuver skinny jeans around the free arm of a sewing machine...

I like the results though. A little rough, but that's ok.

I've also turned a pair of bell bottom jeans that were 2 sizes too big for me into really cute skinny jeans that fit me perfectly. There's something to be said about being able to customize your pants directly to your legs. I love them.
I also tried to sew shut a hole in Denver's shorts he tore yesterday... They didn't turn out as well, but he didn't even give me the chance to turn them right side out and look at it before he had them back on, so I guess it'll work.

That's most of my crafting as of late.
I'm digging into the garden and so excited to get some new plants in the ground!
Yay!

Throw Pillows

Wowza, it's been a while again...
Not going to lie- I'm mostly posting this blog so that I can pin my picture from it onto Pinterest. :)

I just made this pillow today:
It's been in the works for quite some time now- a vision in my head to executed very quickly once I finally got the required tools. I'd gotten the craft idea off pinterest and was wondering what to write when I heard Bob Marley's "Get Up Stand  Up" on the radio on my way home from work- it hit me as the perfect quote for it. That is one of my 2 favorite songs growing up, so it wasn't a difficult choice.

I wrote all of the text myself with a fabric permanent pen and a stencil for the letters.
It took quite a while to draw it all on there... And I am ASTONISHED I finished it without skipping a letter or entire word or something. So I'm pretty proud. :)

This is only the first of many pillows I plan on making. Some others will have a union jack symbol, a patchwork heart, owl or two, and maybe some initials for D & I.

I'll post more when they're being made. :)

Christmas 2011

So this is the first year since moving out that I've had a mantle above a fireplace to hang stocking on, and I love it.

I did not, however have mantle weight/hook things to hang them by ( Can't drill holes for hooks into the mantle- price of renting) so I made my own with only one wire hanger and some wire cutters.

It's kinda ghetto, but I'm okay with that. AND it was free.
Well, almost. I did pay with a little blood.
At one point while trying to bend one of the pieces it slipped and the freshly cut wire sliced pretty deep into my left pointer finger.
But who uses that finger anyways?
WORTH IT.

Rosco seemed to get a kick out of it all.
